An Illinois invention

The invention Barbed wire, aka barb wire and even at times called bob or bobbed wire. Barb wire as I often call it is a steel fencing wire created with sharp edges or points at intervals along the strand of wire. Normally used to keep people and animals in or out of certain areas. Trying to cross over barbed wire will result in discomfort and / or injury.

In 1874 Joseph Glidden of Dekalb Illinois built upon the original invention of barbed wire. This wire was created to restrain cattle. Wire fences were cheaper and easier to erect. The barbed wire fences would be more economical to fence in larger areas.
